The light is for your charging system. Anything that could go wrong with your charging system can make it go off. Check the belt for your alternator. A new alternator may or may not fix the problem depending on what is wrong.

9 out of 10 times that means its your alternator.
To make sure it not anything else I usually check the B+ wire for 12V using
a test light. If you have 12v to you alternator you now know that their is no break in
the wire between the battery and alternator.

Do you have a check engine light. I believe a code 20 may also cause this
light don't quote me on this though. Its your ELD that most likely has gone bad.

You can take it to autozone for a free electrical test, that way you'll know with 99% certainty what the problem is.

I never knew what would cause that light to come on, and now I do.

check all of you major ground cables too. I had this problem a few weeks ago, and found out that the ground cable connected to the tranny loosened when i replaced some motor mounts, tightened and cleaned it, problem fixed.

so, I think my altonator is bad, bc if i turn the car on the altonator will turn on and the belt will be turning, but when the battery light turns on(which it ushaly turns on when i'm driving 70% of the time) the altonator belt dosent run ot turn. So this means the altonator is not running and my battery is not getting charged, right?

turn your car on unplug your battery.. If you car dies alternator is dead..

I think your alternator is on its way out... Just go to autozone and they should be abel to tell you whats wrong

lately, i've been reading problems, and Vatozone gives more free things than I thought lol.

but I'm pretty sure it's usually the alternator.
It's worth a shot
