Default Q prelude running rich?

Hey what’s up

I just bought a prelude a month ago. I’ve been getting a lot of black exhaust on the rear end of my car. My brother said the car is running rich. How can I fix this problem?

The previous owner said that stock preludes normally run rich. The car has an intake other than that it’s stock. I already unhooked the battery for 8 hours. That didn’t seem to help. Thanks in advance.

How come i never see any black exhuast on my rear bumper? oh wait..nvm i own a nhbp.

A lot of people say the black soot on the rear bumper is normal for a prelude so i wouldn't worry too much unless your motor isn't running correctly.

my car is running pig rich, but its getting better since i changed out the following

Fuel filter,O2 sensor, Map sensor, Air filter, Plugs, Wires, Cap and rotor. Sea Foamed and carbed...

next is the knock sensor to change, is your car tossing any codes?

oh yea, check your timing!

get a timing light or find someone who has one, then connect it to the nbr 1 spark plug wire with the little clip and then connect the powersupply to the battery, pull the little rubber thingy on the transmission off right on the front of the engine under the dizzy. start the car and aim the light in the hole and just let it click away, there will be a 2 markings one for advanced one for retarded, it should show u an indication of somwhere in between. yup thats it.

My car used to throw CEL 45 (running too rich/lean) a lot, specifically when hitting vtec. Since then i changed out my plugs to NGK Iriduims and the CEL hasn't come back yet.

If you are going to set your timing again, make sure to jump your service connector (blue connector behind the radio) or else the ECU will compensate for your adjustments.

If you haven't had a tune up in awhile, that may be something to look into. There are many things that could cause your car to run rich. Plugs, wires, intake filter, dizzy, O2 sensor...to name a few.

Go to any auto parts store and ask for a spark plug socket(has an o-ring in it so the plugs dont fall and crack while removing) 3/8.
