Default This is just an FYI, for the beginners to save face when asking for race gas...

Here's how octane ratings work... Octane is a Percentage. Octane ratings cannot exceed 100% unless another chemical is added to the gasoline to make it ;ess detonation prone.

116 112 108 octane for example.

It has other chemicals added to it to allow the detonation resistance rating to exceed 100.

And a side note. When the Octane rating exceeds 100, it usually is replaced by the roman numeral C <for 100> and the over octane. C8 C12 C16, etc etc.

Usually any octanes over 112 are LEADED gas, and bad for the O2 sensors on your car too. Make sure you're getting 108 112 in UNLEADED versions, which are more expensive, too.

Make sense? Lemme know if you learned anything from this.

i dont know if this is a dumb question but Id like to know. Do those NOS octane boosters actually do the job of race gas or is it just a bandaid solution?

From what I understand from those who've used it, it does actually help with anit-detonation somewhat at higher boost levels.. used it once but it was only at 10psi

does the octane booster have any kind of negative effects on the engine in the long run as opposed to race gas?

Most of those people are running no catalytic converter and don't give a rat's *** what happens to their O2 sensor.

you wouldn't want to run leaded gasoline with your wideband sensor hooked up

I think most 'octane boosters' only boost octane a few points, meaning decimal. It's going to help, but sure I wouldn't rely on it.
