brake pad problem
Alright the metal backing on the back of one of the brake pads is slipping around. Because of that my brakes make a loud squeling sound. I tried to fix it by re-clamping it back on, and it worked for a little bit. My question is does anyone know what those metal slips on the back of the pads do? Is it o.k. to take it off?
I just got done putting on new rotors/pads & painting my calipers & painting my rims. Took a LOOONG time, but I just read some writeups so... The slips between your calipers are important, at least all the brake writeups I found said to put them back on. It also had me put a layer of "Stop Noise"...or whatever. Mine was a gel in a little pouch, the writeup showed him spraying it out of a can. Anyways the point is you put it between the calipers | slips | pads to stop the squealing...
those are the shims. the brake pads themselves are pretty fragile so the piston pushes against the shim and distributes the load a little more evenly and lets the pad vibrate a little without messing it up.
