Default Civic a/c compressor, which years will fit?

I have a 1997 Honda Civic HX auto. My compressor is bad, it makes a grinding/clanking sound

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiMrcd0Eack

Anyway, I'm wondering which year Civic a/c compressors are compatible. I looked on car-part.com and it seems as if 1996-1997 is different from 1998? Also VTEC (EX, HX) is different than non-VTEC (DX, LX, CX) is this correct?

However, I looked on eBay and I am seeing that many of the a/c compressors are made by Sanden and have the part number TRS090. They also state that they are compatible with all 1996-2000 Honda Civics. So which is it?

I'm asking because I found a guy selling one who claims it's out of a 1998 EX but he says it's manufacturered by Denso. I just wanna make sure it will work on my car

as long as it's an R134 any civic comressor would do. well not any. from 94-00 would work.

any civic compressor would work, so long as it's d-series right?

i wonder why car-parts.com has em different for VTEC and non-VTEC?

Sanden or denso do the same.

Any D series R134 will work fine.

dudes, i bought one... and it's not the same. it's a denso. supposedly off a 98 civic, didn't specify VTEC or not. the pulley is bigger. also the hi and lo pressure lines are not in the same location.

there IS a difference between VTEC and non-VTEC arggggg

There isn't a difference between VTEC and non-VTEC...cross reference the compressor part#'s here...

Both of those vehicles are VTEC anyways... but it doesn't matter... From the research I just did, there is a difference between the Sanden and the Denso models.
