i think the problem comes into play when you switch back?

i.e synthetic back to non synthetic..

can anyone verify?

however i do know a lot of people running synthetic oil in hondas

i switched from 10w30 regular to mobil 1 10w30 synthetic in my '99 si. you can do it if that is what you are asking but you should think about how long that motor has had regular.

I just switched to synthetic in my CRX that has 190k miles on it. The only thing that happened to my car was a slight increase in fuel economy...

If your motor has an oil leak, the synthetic oil may make it worse. The additives tend to eat away sludge bluidup around the leaking area causing more fluid to escape. If you don't have any leaks, I wouldn't worry at all...

synthetic might be too thin on older motors and leak through cracks and stuff... other than that, it should be fine.

Didn't want to make a new thread..but

Would it be bad if switching from synthetic back to regular?

Fill me in please.

And wouldn't synthetic need a synthetic filter (if that exist) to go with the oil. because.. synthetic is to run up to 6k miles til the next oil change but a regular oem filter cannot take 6k miles i dont think

i use HAMP filters and either mobil 1 full synthetic or royal purple when i feel like spending $$ i also ecently switched the oil to SPECTRO full synthetic on my 300 four trax 4 wheeler(honda circa 1991) and it made it run so much smoother, esp. since i beat the **** outta it

I switched my 98 civic to full synthetic with 146k on the odometer no trouble at all. Wouldn't think twice about doing it again. I also would not think twice should I decide to switch back to dinosaur oil.

Some people seem to have problems when switching to synthetic, other people just repeat **** that they have heard. I have been using full synthetic for 15 years, and there was a time when not all fs oil was created equal. Dino oil has a property in it that enhances gasket sealing by slightly swelling and conditioning seals in your engine. When I first made the switch to fs oil it was a long time ago in a jeep of mine. I bought the cheapest fs I could find and it leaked like a sieve. I drained it and refilled with Mobil 1 and no more leaks. It was my understanding that Mobile 1 has an added seal conditioner that will prevent and even stop SOME kinds of leaks.

I know switching from regular to synthetic is fine. BUT what about the other way around. Synthetic back to regular?? I heard that you have to completely flush the motor in order to go back, is that right?

for those who do run on synthetic - how many miles do you usually run til the next oil change? 2500- 3k (waste if you ask me). 4-6k?

there is no problem going back to non synthetic oil. I just don't see why you would want to do that.

reasons I run synthetic in all my cars.

1. beter protection
2. longer drain intervals 25k miles on my daly driver
3. less oil waste (better for the enviorment)
4. less work for me

the price can be up to triple the price or regular oil, but for better protection and long drain intervals, its cost effective if you really think about it.

$7.50 for amsoil ASL or ATM but you can go up to 25k miles with out oil change. That would be like getting one quart of reg oil for about $0.93.

You can use synthetic, it doesn't matter, I recommend synthetic becaue it lasts longer and protects better, but whatever tickles your fancy.

Amsoil is amazing. But I don't think I would go 25k/1 year before changing it. I did, however, go 10k and it wasn't even dirty.

there is a web site that I need to find again, the guy has amsoil in his truck and has not done an oil change for some time.

he take a sample of oil and sends it in for getting checked and it keeps comming back as still good. so he keep on runing it.

ill post the website as soon as I find it.

reason why I want to is because.. I just bought the car... owner been using synthetic for who knows how long

it's stock d15 o YEA powa baby original with 150k miles - I feel that synthetic is seriously unessecary

it's expensive...

but I would just like to know if anything happens or does it matter whiching from synthetic BACK to original..

because I've heard many stories that once you go syn you can't go BACK!! unless flushed and what not..

nothing wrong with going back to NON synthetic oil. but like I said if you do the math, you end up with better odds from using synthetic oil.
