you dont have to use synthetic oil for our d-motors, but it really depends on the person. In your case you have 90k on your motor...i'd say use the half and half or non synthetic...if remember correctly if you pass 80k or so your not supposed to go switch to synthetic.

Use it, synthetic is always better. I've never heard about this 90k crap before but all synthetic basically is nothing but regular oil with a higher tolerance on the compound. The oil strains are more consistant and react in a more uniform fashion then with regular oil. That is how burning is reduced and efficiency is increased.
As long as you don't leak oil run the syn, cause other than that your dripping money....
Goodluck!

I have the same car and I switched to synthetic on my first oil change, purchased with 75,000 miles on her. I use 10w30 constantly, usually I switch to 5w30 in winter but I don't think I will now that I did go synthetic with this car. I used to work in Sears Auto dept. and some of the mechanics there stated the same thing, that after about 80 to 100,000 miles you shouldn't switch if it's been run on dino oil all it's life, I disagree simply for the fact that I feel synthetic protects better due to the fact that it builds up an extra layer of protection on your piston walls and older cars with more mileage could use that protection. Now one thing is to not switch to synthetic and back to dino multiple times, go with one or the other.

AMS OIL, no questions asked. There a huge write-up on this topic somewhere, but I'm lazy like you, not to be ignorant. AMS OIL FTW!!!

Overrated.
Anywho, there is no real magic mileage that dictates whether synthetic can be used or not. The thing to watch for is consumption. If you have a beat/high mileage engine, it is probably not going to benefit so much from a fully-synthetic oil (and might cause a higher rate of consumption). If you are always up-to-date with your maintenance, Dino oil is perfectly fine for a stock Civic. I'd suggest 5w-20/5w-30 though. If you're already consuming oil, a HM dino will probably suit you.
