Help...burning oil
Hello to all...I just found this forum looking for help with my problem.
I just bought a 1995 Civic 2 dr hb with I'm sure the 1500 motor.
It blows blue in the morning but will clean up provided I don't hit higher rpm.
I put stop smoke for a few days, then changed the oil. Plugs, cap, rotor, air filter, pcv. Changed Valve guide seals (after I started they looked like they did not need replacing but I done them all anyway). Compression is 175 lbs right across.
Car is a 95 with only 156,000 kilometers/93,000 miles.
I'm stuck here, I really can't believe the motor (rings) could be bad.
Anyone out there had this problem or maybe some ideas.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Jack

Your symptoms imply valve leakage. If it was your rings, it would be while accelerating hard. Valve leakage is singnified by blue smoke in the morning, when leaving lights and after coasting for a long time. If your valve guide seals are good, then the next step would be to measure the valve stems and see if they are within spec.
Thanks for the reply...I got hold of my buddy who works on a lot of Hondas in particular.
Leaving a Honda engine to sit for any lenght of time the rings will seize.
He will come over after work tomorrow and carefully (little at a time) run some cleaner through the intake to free the rings. Takes about 20 minutes, add engine flush, then change the oil and finally drive it for a week or so.
He has seen this problem a few times and is confident this will work for me.
And yes, it did smoke under hard acceleration as well.

honda ATF will loosen the rings up also... capful, DRY CRANK let it sit for a while... repeat in a few days.
one thing, if you're sure it's going through the valves doing an intake cleaning will make the problem much worse... it's another way of being sure about it also...

You don't want to free up the carbon deposits causing clearance to go up and giving it
a larger escape route for the oil.
