its a 98spec jdm itr motor and i decided to do a compression test. compression was 240+ on all 4 cylinders. however, all of the spark plugs were black at the tips. seems to be carbon buildup. only like maybe around 1/2 to 1cm of the tip was black. i guess my compression is good but why exactly are my plugs black? is this normal for a jdm r engine? i was told high octane in japan can lead to black plugs. is this true?
im sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask. just figured it is since it is a type r engine.

240+ on all cylinders is a very healthy number. Carbon build up on the spark plugs is normal if your spark plugs are old. Specially if you do a lot of city driving.
The type r runs quite rich from honda to be safe from detonation. The downside is that if you do a lot of start and stop driving your plugs get ugly.

i didnt do it personally, had the shop do it.
i also was thinking about seafoam but im scared it might loosen up deposits and kill my compression.

He knows what they should look like and since there was alot of carbon build-up he was concerned and posted about it.

black means fine. i assume you replaced spark plugs and not running what came with the swap.

I've put that stuff in my 260k accord. Still runs great, doesnt burn oil, and isnt leaking it either....
