Default Will car start if balance shaft are misaligned?

I put an h22a in car for someone and it continues to have problems.

The guy calls me recently tell me it "died" again and won't start and was popping and stuff. I take the cap of the distributor and it looks like it caught on fire and smells horrible. Either way he bought a new one and put it on himself and it still won't start.

Just to rule it out of my head I wanted to make sure that the balnace shafts would not effect the motors ability to start.

If anyone has any ideas why the car might not be firing let me know.

Balance shafts should not affect performance. It is merely there for NVH.

run by **** meaning it will be rough vibration wise, but it should still have a perfect mixture, no popping or stalling.....

check to make sure the map sensor and its vac line are sound, then check the fpr and its vac line, the fuel filter, and the spark plugs/wires....

also check spark timing...

Thanks for you comments, I didn't think the balancing shafts would make that much of a difference, I believe they are fine anyway, just wanted to rule it out.

Anyways as far as the problem

its a 96 with an obdI h22a.

I had the car running fun other than the mysteriously high idle that doesn't surge. But the dude called me and randomly it dies and won't start it'll just pop and stuff. Distributor was obviously toast after removing the cap, but now that I the new one is on there I don't understand why it wouldn't run right.

I have gone back to check and make sure fuel is getting all the way through the injectors, or to make sure it is still sparking, nor the compression, but for what happened I just figured replacing the distributor will probably due the trick.
