torn cv boot.
a new axle is like 50-55 per side with core at carquest or advance. They also come with life time warranty.
you will be fine driving around with a ripped boot. You might start to hear clicking when you turn after a while.
it is very easy to replace.
all you need is.....
a torque wrench (with the ability to got to 181ft lbs) (and as low as 32ft lbs)
36mm socket
14 mm socket
17 mm socket
17mm wench
ball joint separator
and a ratchet
hope that helps.
if you need anymore help just pm me i have changed axles about 35872346743986436837 times in my car lol

you can drive on it for a little while depending on the weather and such. Once it starts clicking making turns you should get it replaced.
I've driven 3k with a torn boot until it started making noise. YMMV.
Figure a shop would charge around 200 with parts and labor.

hey im not sure how this is going to work b/c today i got it done which is my right outer cv boot was torn and clicking but i work at a honda dealership and i m a painter/painter's prep but i had the mach... look at the boot and they know a guy that repairs them and so they sent it out and the guy did it and sent it back, the shaft was clicking and they said he would just rebuild it for me and they said give us 90 bucks for rebuild and labor, i think its good to go b/c on the way home i took a few different turns and no clicking at all, think im good to go, plus i had a 89 prelude and i got to cv shaft from napa that were rebuilds and they sucked, and the mach... said that this is the way to go, c what happens.

you don't need a lift, jack and jackstand is enough. but if you don't want to do it yourself just go to a decent shop you should be able to get away with a rebuild+labor for around 200.

lol..i just tore my inner boot to! i went ahead and special ordered the entire shaft..CV's are probably a 3 on a 1-10 scale on difficulty scale (to me) so i'll probably be throwing it on there myself (lol, even though my dad has been a mechanic for like 20 years!) , but if you can't find a PROPER way to lift it, don't even try it!
