Default How does a headgasket affect timing?

A friend of mine has a mugen headgasket on his ITR. How does this affect timing?

seriously, why would it? the most it could do is bring the compression up a few points.

so it doesnt? so a thinner headgasket, which brings the head closer to the block, doesnt throw off the timing a bit?

Yes it does effect cam timing. I'm not for sure how much though .There were some great threads about this on the endyn page but thats no longer there.

I used to think it didn't affect timing but technically it does. If you take the amount that you are reducing the thickness of the head gasket by, say 0.040 inch, divide by the radius of the cam gear, about 2 inches, and multiply by 180/pi you'll get the angle in degrees that your cams get retarded. In this example about 1.146 degrees.
