Default Have to wait for intake to turn on to idle corectly

When i turn on my car it doesnt have to be a cold start i can even be driving it for a while.. i have to wait like 3 seconds for my cars intake to turn on and start sucking for it to idle correctly.. so i usually hold my foot on the gas a bit to keep it idling till it turns back on.. but if i dont hold the gas down it will stay low low 3-400rpms and spit and spudder and shut off or sometimes ill get lucky and it will spit and sputter and not shut off.. any suggestions on what causes this? thanks

have you changed your plugs lately? also could be your fuel filter could be clogged. Also might want to see if you air filter is clean also.

How much fuel is in your tank when this is occurring? I am thinking some sort of fuel pressure problem.

my cars intake doesnt start sucking in anything for about 3 seconds thats what i mean when i say it turns on.. it has a new fuel filter, new plugs, new wires and it has an after market intake that was new when i got it. my cars never under half tank. Once u hear the intake start bringing in air.. yeah i know it sounds messed up but thats how it works on my car<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by tayoh &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">When i turn on my car it doesnt have to be a cold start i can even be driving it for a while.. i have to wait like 3 seconds for my cars intake to turn on and start sucking for it to idle correctly.. so i usually hold my foot on the gas a bit to keep it idling till it turns back on.. but if i dont hold the gas down it will stay low low 3-400rpms and spit and spudder and shut off or sometimes ill get lucky and it will spit and sputter and not shut off.. any suggestions on what causes this? thanks</TD></TR></TABLE>

any CEL, your motor starts sucking as soon as it starts turning over. sounds like the fuel pump might not be priming.

Get a haynes manual and it will show you how to take the OBD port and use an analog multimeter to read the code.

Your throttle body is dirty. Carbony, oily, black nasty chit has collected between the throttle plate and the throttle body. It has restricted the amount of airflow to sufficiently hold an idle. Thats why you can give it "gas" and it runs ok till warm up. Get some throttle body/carb cleaner and spray away. Be sure to open the throttle plate and wipe up the excess with a rag. (do this while the car is off)

note: when you start the car after doing this, it may be hard to start and it may run funny for a few seconds. Give it gas to keep the car running until it smooths out.

i have absolutly NO certifications whatsoever, however..
I DIDNT say you were wrong by any means, your prob 100% right, but you seemed so sure, when we dont have much info at all, not to mention his CEL is on and we dont know what for.

The info that was given was enough for me to analyze the problem. (Granted it was all correct). There is not much to diagnosing this. From what the OP originally stated, these symptoms will rarely throw a code.

Edit: I reread the first post. The car is starving for air. I just can't change my mind about this.

i wouldnt even try to "e-diagnose" a problem without knowing the code thats being thrown, there are just too many what ifs.

You've got to be kidding me.

Why would you neglect to include that incredibly important fact in your original post?
