crankshaft pulley bolt sheared and pulley went flying
My wife has a 95 civic LX 1.5L and the crankshaft pulley bolt sheared off and the pulley went flying down the road. The garage she took it to said that she needed a whole new crank. They don't do engine repairs so I took a look at it. The bolt sheared off so I got a new bolt, key and pulley. Now I have everything apart and I'm looking at it closer and I'm wondering if I can fix it. I thought the crank had splines on it just like the pulley and timing belt sprocket. If there were teeth, they're gone now. Everything is smooth and I can't get the sprocket off. If I put the new pulley on with just the key to mate it to the crankshaft, will this be enough or will it immediately shear the key?
I looked for pictures everywhere, but I couldn't find any. The pictures in the Haynes manual don't seem to show splines.
If it did have them, anyone know of a fix?

No splines, just a keyway hold it in place. theres not a whole lot of stress on the pully, remember all it does is turn a rubber belt, if something else were to jamb up, the belt would burn up long before the keyway would break.

No not without the bolt. I just want to make sure that after I go through all of this it won't start and shear the key and ruin everything again. I thought there were splines to help distribute the torque.

The snout of the crankshafit is always smooth and the keyway is the only thing keeping the two connected. These engines are hard to critically expletive up, so put that bastard back together the way you think it should be and happy driving
