Default Would You Guys Rebuild This Or Find A Good Used One

My S20 92 95 Ex/SI tranny is starting to go out and it seems to be getting worse and worse everyday.

Here are the symptoms:
- Whinning and clucking when in first gear
- Makes a wierd ting ting noise like a loose bolt, but when you barely touch the clutch pedal it goes away.
- Third gear grind; have to use the famous 4th to 3rd shift
- For some reason, when you try to move the shifter to the right to go into reverse it seems like its getting stuck on something and you have to wiggle it a few times for it to go.

So anyway, you tranny guys think its worth the rebuild or better luck trying to find something that's use and hopefully in better shape.

You'll spend about 800$ having it rebuilt. And about 300 for a used one at a junk yard. Honestly get a new one. Cause it sounds to me like someone drove the hell out that tranny.

pick on up on ht for less then 200. Thats probably your cheapest route and fastest turn around.

Yeah I figured, I remember my cousin was telling me that if I can get the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears since they are on one spindle in the tranny and the 5th and reverse are on another one it would probably cost me 300 for the first spindle and he would help me rebuild, but I'm thinking there's more things wrong with it then just the gears. And yeah, I'm pretty sure someone did drive the crap out of the tranny already like this when I got it.

Not even close. There is a gear for 1 through 5 on both the mainshaft and countershaft. It sounds like he doesn't know how these trannies work. A bearing kit is around $225 alone, and you need at least a 3rd gear synchro, as well as the 3/4 synchro sleeve and most likely a new 3rd gear. That's probably $650 or so from Gearspeed.

At 650$ plus labor cost. Just a tranny rebuild calls for almost 6 hours. and at 80-110 an hour it gets expensive.

just pick up a used one, save your money then rebuild your old one. then you can do custom gears for your application.

Thanks for the replies, just curious if you guys thought it was worth a rebuild. But I guess, I'll save myself the hassle and try and find a good used on.
