does it increase wheel gap?

lower offset wheels increase the perception of wheel gap. Higher offset wheels make the drop look bigger. This is all dependent on keeping the tire diameter the same as stock.
Larger diameter wheels in the same offset as the originals will also make the car look higher.
Obviously the gap or ride height is not changing, just the way it looks.
