Default 2000 civc ex power lock change question

hey guys my 2000 civic ex, Passange side power lock is not working, i have to lock it with the key. My question is i want to continue to use my stock OEM keyless entry. Do i need to replace the power lock with a OEM one. or can i change it with a aftermarket much cheaper power lock modual and wire it into the stock power lock wire in the door so it will continue to work with factory keyless entry. Thanks!

If you want it to continue to work with your factory, I'd just replace it with OEM. To go aftermarket, you'll need to rewire with relays etc...

Plus, it's just a hell of alot easier to replace an OEM actuator using the same mounting points, rather than screwing around mounting an aftermarket actuator with the mounting straps they give you, and then worrying about cutting the lock rod to length and attaching it to the existing lock rod, and wondering how long those grub screws are going to stay tight before they release their grip on the rod and then you're tearing the door apart to fix the problem...

I would also go with the stock actuator, [door lock motor] if the problem is the motor, it will be plug and play.

However if all you are replacing is the pass. actuator, you can use an aftermarket actuator.

First thing I would do is check to see what the problem is, remove door panel, unplug the 2 wires going to the actuator, meter the 2 wires, they should both read as grounds, [Honda/Acura uses a ground at rest D/L system] then set meter to DC volts and while probing one wire at a time lock and unlock the doors, you can use the key in the drivers door or the key-less entry remote, each wire will go to 12V+ depending on if your locking or unlocking, if the above is good, you need a new actuator, if however, you do not get a ground on both leads, [at rest] and 12V+ on one of the wires when you lock and on the other when you unlock, the problem is not the actuator, and may be wiring or the "Power Door Lock Control Unit". 94
