turbo timer, do i need it?
trying to figure out what a turbo timer is used for and if ima need one. from what ive searched, i guesse it keeps the car running after its turned off, to cool the turbo? what i dont get is how does the car running cool the turbo? what exactly is the purpose of it. if im running ahomemade turbo setup, 8psi on a z6 mini me in my 88 rex, would i benefit from one. i mean what will prevent someone from running up into my car when i leave and its still on and driving away? also what if it didnt turn off and it was left running for like hours and hours? just a few questions i had. if a turbo timer isnt needed, what shoudl one do when they are done driving, because this is the first time ive heard about cooling the turbo after ur done driving by not turning the car off right away. someoen school me plz
its mainly used for larger turbos that gather alot of oil in the center section if you out romping around and just come to a stop and kill the engine than the hot oil in the turbo cools and chokes up inside the turbo.
usually they are very reliable and will not go over a min or 2... As for theft, they will kill the car if the brakes pressed and you still have your sterring locked
its not really necessary if you just let your setup cool for a bit...

It isn't needed, as said before just let your car idle for a little, with normal driving 1 min should be fine, if you are hard on it up to 3 min should be good....its only to preserve the turbos life for lazy people that are always in a rush...hmm maybe i should get one
1100-1300 EGT can warp cheap metal if let air cool aswell. Allowing it to slowly drop to 800 makes the metal have an easier chance at air cooling without damage, as it alreada has dropped enough.

Turbo timers are like power windows...not needed but nice to have and sucks when they mess up.
I usually use my timer in the most when I just crank the car in the morning and head off to work. (I don't drive the CRX very much) I just like to let the car warm up and get the fluids circulating.
If you can manage to sit in the car a minute or so after running the car, then you don't need a timer. I personally enjoy my timer (old school Greddy) but hated my old timer (new Greddy)
