Default turbo timer?

i know this might sound stupid as hell but here it goes. My friend with a 3000gtvr4 knows that i am doing a motor swap and he said that it would help if i got a turbo timer, heres the catch i dont have turbo, but he said that it doesnt matter that i dont have a turbo because he said no matter what it will help preserve the life of my engine because it is not good to turn off a motor when it is very hot? im assuming it can't hurt, but is it a waste of money? BS? ever done?

please do not flame me, because i understand that it sounds stupid as hell, i just want to be able to give him a straight answer so he does not pass false knoledge

your friend is an idiot. dont' hang out with him anymore.

turbo timers were made to cool the oil running through the turbo so it wouldn't coke up, thus blowing your oil seals and whatnot. there really isn't a point of running a turbo timer on a n/a engine, only on turbo engines (hence the word turbo timer.)

Ii do not have a timer yet, but if I am not mistaken most if not all of them read boost and will idle for a certain time, shorter or longer depending on what boost was seen.

Somebody please correct me if I am a blathering idiot, which is entirely possible.

Turbo timer reading boost? i don't think so. its basically a kitchen timer that keeps your car on.

The only place it would be usefull is if you were to road/drag race your car and not have time to wait for it to cool down. Its pointless becuase most of the time when you get back to the pits it will be cool enough, it doesnt see the extreme temps that turbo cars do. If you had a full blown race car it might help, otherwise just save your cash, or you can buy it and send it to me!

Not neccesarily...I mean it not too essential on on an NA car as it is on a Turbo...but YES it does increase longevity of the engine. Apex makes something called the 'auto-timer' which is intended for NA cars but of course you can use it on turbos too...so no..your frien is not wrong...he is right to a certain degree
