Default Type 'R' big brake upgrade

Does anyone have suggestions for a big brake upgrade. I've been hearing good things about the new Mugen kit although I don't think the calipers are 4-pot. This would be 4 a road race application and I'd rather not spring for Brembo's. Thanks.

Stock is fine even for competition use.

If you don't wanna go with the aluminum calipers, stay with stock.

Spoon or any 4 pot AL calipers and some good pads is all you'll ever need.

StopTech has a new kit out for ITRs.

i went down to StopTech and talked to the big boss Bob Lee. Before I knew it, I got swayed into handing over the keys to 234 and they are out testing the kit on it today. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the testing to take reports or pix (j0b? what j0b?). They should be completing the testing soon, so hopefully I'll have something to report back tonite.

So does this mean you're going with some 17" bling rims now? So which is it? Volks, SSRs, Buddy Clubs? Sounds nice...

I'd like to keep the 15's since it is a track car and I'm told the Volk TE-37's should clear a big brake upgrade.

Your stock brakes are more than adequate. What is your complaint with the stock brakes? What are you looking to improve specifically?

Since we don't know what the problem he has with his stock brakes is, we can't diagnose a proper solution for him. For all we know he might be better off with a different type of fluid or different type of brake pad. I'm just curious what fault he finds with the stock itr brakes on a road course. I've been tracking my yellow POS for two years now with stock brakes and Motul 600 fluid, and the brakes have never let me down.

stock parts that are more than adequate
wasting money on changing out parts that don't need to be changed

If you want to change parts for reasons other than performance, that's fine. It's just a waste to try to change a part out to get better performance when there are more important areas to focus on.

Wai's right... Stock calipers and good pads is often good enough for most use. If there's a specific reason why you want to upgrade your calipers and prepared to spend quite a bit on the calipers, pads and perhaps wheels and tires, don't spend your money there. ITR brakes are very good...

Yea i could have done with out the spoons, but at that time I had cash to burn, and it burned well (and fast )

Craig - who is now poor, but still loves how fast his car stops

Gotta admit the Spoons are nice... And I'm pretty sure they don't hurt performance! eheh...

Sorry to reply late, I don't have home access. The problem I am having is with a long mushy pedal after a few laps. Brakes have been bled, using motul and braided lines. Using hawk hp plus pads since I was trying to avoid blues if possible. Already have a half inch block on the brake but after a number of laps I have difficulty heel and toeing.
I should tell you that this is not a type 'r' but a civic hybrid hb with ALL type 'r' internals. 'R' MC has been changed also. Thanks.

R brakes shuold be MORE than adequate on a civic, as they handle the it ITR's braking perfectly and it weighs more. Look into some carbotech panther plus pads for your track days. i garuantee this will be the end of your worries, also, change your fluid just to be safe, i use AP Racing 551, but any of the high temp brake fluids will work just fine.
