Guys Need Some Help
Guys
I need some help here
I bought my used 01 Honda Civic like two months ago
and i was thinking of getting it serviced for 75000 miles.
Is the Honda dealership workshop a reliable place to get it done or do they charge a lot???
Iam not able to understand.
Particularly i need to get something done with brakes (may be new brake pads) and A/C filter (new A/C filter)
Is there any other place where i can enquire about the costs coz they said on the whole its gonna go upto $500 (199 (general servicing 75000 miles), brake pads ($160), A/C filter ($140)
It seems that my extended warranty doesnt work on these as these are consumables.
Can anyone advice me on this coz i see you guys have lot of experience with all these things.
by the way are there any reliable workshops available other than Honda Dealerships ( I live in Houston)
Thanks in advance

For the overwhelming majority of uninitiated motoring enthusiasts, the Honda dealer is going to be the best place to go. You already need the service, and you clearly do not know what you're doing when it comes to performing the 75K check yourself, and you might not know enough about how to find a local garage to do it for you.
Don't be afraid to go the dealer. They're not in business to rip you off, and there are safeguards in place that make it a severe disincentive for a service writer, service manager or technician to peform work that you do not need.
There are commissions involved, and they will look for things to do that you might not know about, but they're typically not going to try to rip you off because the boss and the boss's boss will be looking out for this, and division and regional representatives will get involved if there is a customer complaint.
Since you already need the service I would not hesitate to go the dealer. Ask around to see if there's a dealer close by that your friends and neighbours like.
When you have more time, you can learn a little about how to do some of the simple things yourself (the "AC filter" you're talking about is a no brainer), but in the mean time it's more important that you just get the car taken care of.

Depends on the Honda dealership. Some are better than others. I would stick with shops that know Hondas. I just got a used Civic too. I had to fix an oil leak myself because some mechanic at an generic oil change place didn't properly torque the oil drain plug. If you plan to do-it-yourself, I'd recommend getting a good repair manual. Amazon.com has a bunch of them. Have fun.
