my 01 prelude was missing a trunk spring
i just got a new one but i can't get it locked in. are there any tools/techniques to get it in.

Well, there is such a thing as a 'torsion bar assembly tool' that the manual says you're supposed use, but you may be able to muscle it in with a little creativity and basic tools....

its hard to explain but I had to do it once. Lightly bolt the left hinge to the trunk and set the bars on it. Leave the right one unbolted and get the rear bar mounted to the right hinge in the rear position. You should understand which one goes where by looking. Then get a wrench and put it inbetween the two end of the last bar and rotate the bar a good half turn or more toward the front of the car in clockwise postion. Hope that helps and makes sense.
Basically when the trunk is closed the bars are tensioned one way so that when you pop it the want to unwind and hence open the trunk. Kinda like winding up a rubber band. If you twist it to the left its gonna unwind to the right when you let go.

i took my car to a honda prep shop and they did it for free. they had a lil L shaped tool. he got it on in 5 mins.
