Vtec trouble.. help
I have an auto 1997 si d16y8 sohc vtec motor del sol.. yes i kno yea yea its auto calm your talk. im saving for my new motor but in the mean time i dont hear vtec kick in at all at any high rpm.. the car runs 17.2 with the gsr rims, intake, and muffler. im wondering if i cant hear if because its not kicking in. Does anyone know whats wrong or what to check? also i have this sensor out that goes into the stock intake because the aftermarket one doesnt have a hole. Do i need that in? thanks
don't take this the wrong way, but you have a sohc. your not going to hear the vtec engage. well, you might if the windows are closed, radio is off, you exhaust is not loud, and there is no one talking in the car. LOL.
if for some reason your vtec wasn't working you would have a check engine light on.

First, are you throwing any codes? Second, you probably wont be able to hear the vtec on a SOHC, esp. if you have a loud exhaust. And that time could just suck becuase you suck at driving, but we dont know that, so the time doesnt help a whole lot.

17.2, thats sounds right. it's a auto, and not to mention, del sols are the heaviest of the civic's.

how you figure b16 have the same horsepower (when not in vtec) as a sohc?
did you forget the sohc is only 125hp when vtec is engaged. so when it's not, it's a hell of alot less. and which b16 are you refering too. you do know the jdm b-series are always 10hp more than the usdm's. and let's not forget, DOHC is way more superior to sohc.
and if dohc ain't **** in your book, then what motor are you saving up for?

hey just for clarification, i did not "rip" on your driving. I personally dont know what a auto del sol would run, but when someone post up a time, it usually cant be used to determine if anything is wrong, because between two drivers, a car can be seconds apart in the quarter, even though they are in the same car. I didnt mean to "rip" on your driving. now untwist those panties and relax

are you serious!? b16's might not be great 'while not in vtec' but what about when vtec is engaged? there's about a 40-50hp difference between your sohc, stock for stock. you should take a ride in any b/h/k series cars.. I bet it'll make you wanna rewrite your shitty 17.2 book.
anyways.. back to the original topic.. you drive a stock sohc auto.. you're not gonna hear ****.
