Default Need help now, short block vs. long block

Getting motor replaced on 98 gsr. They want to put a long block instead of a short block. I asked if it's the same motor that I have in there right now and they said it is. What's the difference? They are going to call me later today. He said he would put everything that I have on there right now back on there.
tia (thanks in advance)

they mite be suggesting the long block because your head was krunked when your bottom end took a pouter. it all depends on what happened....heads dont like pistons or other things crashin into their combustion chambers when a rod lets loose, or, you could have had oil starvation SO bad that the cam journals are DONE, which will call for the requisite replacement...

Well, he checked everything out. Everything was pretty tight but the valves were loose so he adjusted the valves and found out that the tick was coming from the 3rd one. He took the 3rd one off-line and the ticking stopped so he thinks it's a piston in the 3rd. He suggested since labor is going to be a lot just to replace everything instead of just this problem. He is checking it for me right now.
