Problems with a civic 4dr! *HELP!*
Ok guys, this has been happening on and off for the past few months. The first sign the car gave me was when I was on the freeway doing about 65-75mph and the car suddenly kicked into neutral (engine-wise, would not move) and when I would accelerate, it would just rev. The rpm's would go to 3000 then drop to 0 like crazy all while I could accelerate, but the car didn't move. I posted in another forum and someone suggested that it might be a loose spark plug. So, I check all plugs, some were loose, but I didn't think they would solve anything. Well, I regapped them and tightened them snugly and it never did it again.
Well, it wasn't until about a month ago that it did something else. I was crusing down the street when the car started idling like it wanted to turn off, reacheing rpm's as low as 250. Whenever I would accelerate, it would go up and then it would normalize. At times, whenever I would accelerate while the car did that, it would do it more as I would rev the car.
Now today, I turned it on and the car kinda turned on funny. I cranked it, turned on quickly, but did the same idling thing I described above. I would accelerate it and it would do it worse. After I moved it out of the back yard, I placed it in Park and the car idled perfectly fine at about 850-1000rpm and then when I would try to accelerate, it would rev really strange, as if it wanted to turn off or struggling again.
Now, I suspect either spark (which seems good) or fuel. Obvious reasons, but I also suspect ground. What do you guys think? Maybe failing fuel pump? What should I check first?

Ok, checked the distributor, replaced it. Check the spark plugs, replaced them. Car starts much faster and better, but still wants to die when I accelerate.
my friend's eg did the same thing, we sat and cleaned everything with carb cleaner, and it still did it, ended up being the injector harness for #4 was coming loose, double check electrical connections for fuel and spark for sure.
My car did that once....it would idle fine but poop out on acceleration. Turned out the timing belt jumped a tooth or two.
*edit* fuel pump also sounds reasonable

Well, above I meant to say distributor cap, not distro itself. I purchased new injector o-rings if I get desperate enough to send the injectors off for inspection.
Humm, timing or electrical. I've never had any problems with my electrical and I dont get any error codes or check engine light. So I know everything electrical is up to par. The only thing I'm suspecting could be electrical is the MSD box and blaster ss coil. Anyone know how to test those? I really dont think it's spark, but I dont wanna leave it out.
I also wanna add that I would always run cleaner at every tune-up and also pumped every time I was at 1/4 of tank of fuel. So I'm skeptical of the injectors being plugged and all. Also, the night before it started, I went to put gas and it worked perfectly fine. Could the gas I pumped clogged my filter? ******* ******** if it did.

Ok guys. Just checked wires, checked o2 and checked timing. Wires are okay, switched my current ones with previous emergency cables that are 100% working, still doing it. Did the o2 sensor test by unplugging it, still does it. I checked timing... ahh, it's off. I fixed it, but still does it.
I also wanna add that the car accelerates fine if I press the pedal gently and raise the rpms slowly, but if I press harder, then it sputters.
When I adjusted the timing, I forgot to put the stupid jumper wires. The good thing is that I didn't turn off the car, but remembered after I had already set the timing, then placed the jumper, let it run for a few minutes, then turned it off then removed the jumper wire. Do I have to do it over or should it be okay?

I would try taking the msd box out of the loop and driving the car for one day. I would bet you'll notice the problem goes away. I had one leave me stranded on I-95 at 3am in cracktown, SC and ever since then I've just used the blaster coil only, no MSD box.
Worth a shot. I'll test tomorrow. How about the timing thing, should it be okay if I shorted that stupid jumper wire after I set it. I didn't turn off the car. I also restarded the car and rechecked it, still in the same setting.
