You can re-solder them. But for the 40$ they are worth, I bought a new one, well, new to me (used, but was the new style so it didn't fail). The originals fail after 10-15 years. The solder breaks loose and doesn't connect 100% of the time. Usually when it's nice and hot and the plastic expands a bit.

My main relay was a chronic problem out here. Cheapest replacement in town was a 2 day wait and $59. So I did a search, spent 5 min resoldering and its been solid for the last 18 months.

What you problem is, is that the fuel pump isn't working.
It has nothing to do with spark.

But I don't mean your fuel pump is bad, just that the main relay is what turns it on.

I grabbed 3 from a junk yard a month or so ago. one from a 89, one from a 90-91 and one from a 89 teg. They all worked on my car even though the teg one had a different part number and was a different color.

Anyways its easy. Open the relay up, touch each solder point with a solder gun until it pools then remove the gun. Repeat on each solder point.

It certainly sounds like the main realy. Its a 30 minute job to test this out. I suggest you re-solder the replacement used relay that you're planning on using, to be absolutely sure that when you change the relay, you're putting in something that will work all the time, and not just when its cool. When you said you tested the replacement relay, did you heat it up with a heat gun to try and simulate the conditions that it will see when you're using it in the car?
