sub help.
i have a JL 12”w3v2 with a JL http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod...d=257
Here is my problem. I’ve heard other subs same as mine bump wayyy harder and better. And since I turned the power up on the amp it keeps on turning off because it gets so hot. Is that because its not pushing enough power to the sub? Also...what amp would you guys recommend for my sub? Im a huge nooooob @ this so don't laugh at this next question....how do i know how many OHM's i have?
thanks....any advise is appreciated

I'm guessing your amp is not strong enough to power your subs. I suggest getting a power acoustick amp for your subs. THey power big subs and are half the prices of JL, kicker, and audiobahn etc.
In my eyes and many other peoples jl makes the best subs and amps. A w3 is a pretty good sub. I would go with a jl 500 watt amp. And make sure you have an amp kit that can handel that many watts. Also changing your head unit will help power it better and sound better.

There's your #1 problem right there.
Adjusting the GAIN **** will NOT supply your speakers with more power.
I'm willing to bet that you have a pre-fab sealed box. Those suck. That's like buying a Ferrari and taking it mudding. To get the most out of your sub, you need a sealed or ported box built to spec.
You also need a more powerful amp. The MAX power your amp will put out is 275w @ 14.4volts. I can almost guarantee that that amp doesn't see 14.4v. (and this figure is considerably less if the sub isn't in a 2 ohm configuration).
edit: For the bandwagoneers, JL is FAR from the best. Decent yes, but overpriced and nowhere near the best.

ok heres the thing...im a noob @ this stuff...i dont even know how many OHMS i have.
but i do know that going over RMS wattage is better than going under. and as far as my box....its some box that i got off a buddy that had a w3 that sounded way better than mine
