i was wondering what is the best way to get low end torque with a budget of 250. i drive a 96 gsr with only an aem v2 intake.
what kind of headers/exhaust?
any input would be helpful

stock gives best low end torque.

 

buy a "supercharge any car" mod

do you ever post anything hepful or technical?

as far as low-end torque, a short ram as well as 4-2-1 headers should make some power down low. a twin-loop exhaust will also free up some low-end ponies.

 

only $250 to spend??? dang.. dont expect to feel a NOTICEABLE difference with that much $$.. u can buy a used 4-2-1 header or put in a couple more hundreds and get ctr cams

save more money, that kind of budget isnt going to buy something that will even put a major dent on the trq chart.

 

Everything you post is useless. Why don't you post something that will help him instead?? If you don't know what you are talking about don't post. Like I do.

Exactly what SoEvol said. Save your money because it will be hard to buy something for 250 that will have any noticable hp and torque gains.

i was planning on buying dc sport headers 4-2-1 because i heard that was for low end and 4-1-1 is top end. those go for about $250. then after i was thinking about getting a greddy exhaust.
but i also heard that 4-2-1 sucks from someone on HT
after i get my headers and exhaust ill save up for some cams. itr or skunk s1 ?

 

why get 4-2-1?..yeah low end torque but gsr's are high revving engine and vtec starts at 4400, so you need as much torque for high end..get 4-1 header, better top end....and for cams go for ctr intake and itr exhaust...

 

go buy an ls block and do ls vtec ;x

Once again, save the money, or use it on something that would make your car a lot more fun to drive (short shifter, weighted ****, etc)

for what?..he already has a gsr...gsr has potential...ok anyway i dont want to get into this....just go get some money GOD DAMN IT...you cant do anything without that green paper

 

You can do this for free:

Advance your timing to the maximum recommend spec. It was 18 degrees BTDC on my 92 DA, but you can check your own with a repair manual. I think it might have it with the idle information on one of the stickers under your hood also.

You can do this with a timing light - just loosen the bolts on your distributor and rotate the distributor clockwise or counterclockwise to alter the timing. Use the timing light for reference. I forget which way is which... And do NOT advance/retard past the recommended specs.

May or may not make any difference at all... but it falls within your budget

 

save money and buy a smsp header and a r*sr exhaust and you'll be great.

cut out your resonator box and put a kn filter on. The resonator box is all the tubing and crap under the intake box and goes below then wraps back up to your engine. Its a free mod so it fits your budget

 

Advancing your timing will net some power gains, but at the cost of your engine running rich. Do this at your own risk

The cars powerband calls for more low end to get the car into vtec and really moving. No ***** 'til that 4400 buddy.

 

Start by getting a job! Your going to need more than 250 bones..

 

Up the compression.

 

do a basic tune up, new spark plugs, oil filter, fuel filter, ect...
i got some used dc 4-2-1 (e-mail me)
then go buy some suspension with the money you saved!!

lol just make your head gasket thinner to get a little more compression, advance timing, maybe weight reduction, goodtires will help you gain traction for the low end. perhaps hone in your driving skills to help your launches. theres many many things. get a job though ~250 is nothing when it comes to the aftermarket

i know. what's he expect for $250? get a job and save.

 

Its still hard to save any good amount when you have been at a job for less than a few years, especially as a student. But I guess at that point you should be concentrating on school anyways.
