Default Help: Wierd Missfire

So I had NGK v-power plugs instead of the OEM double platinum plugs, the car would start missfiring or stuttering at very random times...ie: sometimes when i am taking off in first ..it stutters....or when im in any gear at low rpm it will stutter a little....also the idle began to drop as low as 300rpm or sometimes it even shut off everytime i came to a stop....so i figured change the plugs to the original ones...i put those in...got a little worst....next night i got a check engine code saying ( System Too Rich, Bank 1) bank 1 = .oxygen sensor before cat....next morning randomly the idle got okay but still stuttering....i tried changing the coils with my friends s2k but the problem is still there but no bad idle....someone said check o2 sensors....i opened them up and looked at them...they arent that bad...to me it almost seems like im loosing spark somewhere..the cylinder is not burning the fuel and thats why my o2 sensor is reading rich...any ideas?

Go back to your stock plugs and gap them correctly, see what happens.

your check engine light code is telling u what the problem is for your misfire, your o2 sensor, test it with a multimeter or swap in a good one and see if the problem goes away.

well i was thinkin it was the o2 sensor as well...im going to go ahead and swap that one out and see if it makes a difference.......buttt...the reason i thought it couldnt be the o2 sensor is because.....the o2 sensor is the only thing that tells wut ur air to fuel mixture is inside the motor.....and so i figured something from up there (plug, coil, or anything ) is not functioning correctly and the o2 sensor is reading it being bad....but im goin to try swappin a o2 sensor out 2maro

if ur sensor is bad, looking at it wont tell u nething, sometimes u just get a bad one, and sometimes u will replace it with a brand new one that is bad, ur injectors may be clogged so the engine forces more fuel into the engine to over correct, sometimes that happens, and if ur in a higher mialge car that will happen. my 05 s2k studders sometimes coming to a stop at idle, dont know y, but its not all the time. in a rush more later...

your o2 sensor is probably stuck lean, so the computer is only seeing a lean value from the o2 instead of lean rich lean rich, so it compensates by adding more fuel, thats why u have the system too rich code

Also could be your MAP sensor - check S2ki and read up on the map whack fix. Apparently they are a problematic piece but easy to fix with a few good whacks and and ecu reset every once in awhile. I had a similar problem and I fixed it the same way. (Low idle, almost stalling when slowing and stopping, sputtering sometimes)

Edit - I would also change your plugs back to stock - might as well.

yeee but my sputtering isnt SOMETIMES......its every time i drive the car....except at random times while driving.....but its gauranteed to act funny everytime u drive it...iit almost seems like its not getting correct spark..... but then again the plugs r oem and gapped correctly..and the coils have been changed.....and my map sensor i have already changed to a brand new one

Regarding the MAP whack, it's not because of a faulty sensor itself, but the tiny port that it is bolted to. Unbolt the MAP sensor and make sure it's clean and oil/dirt free. Reset the ECU, recheck the gap plugs, reset the idle, and try again.

Yup its true its not because the sensor is faulty it just needs to be cleaned or whacked and its back to 100%. They even did a few tests and a new sensor worked just as well. Its just the way that works and designed (not on purpose but its just one of those things) Its worth doing alongside of the few other things - it is a free thing to do and only takes a few minutes, you may be surprised.

i tried changing my Oxygen sensors and it drove fine for a couple of days but then it started givin me the same problem....when i first turn it on in the morning it starts up and starts idling VERY odd....or it just turns off..when i drive it...its almost like im running on 3 cylinders because the car doesnt move..then all of a sudden it kicks and it starts driving normal again and then next gear does it again... could a bad TPS or bad IAC cause this? how could i test my coils? or my injectors?

first, are you running a stock ecu? what modifications do u have done?

next, id probably do a compression or leak down test, make sure your motor isnt hurt.

then id start looking into various sensors.
