*tons-O-pics* from Silversone, Honda garage, and factory
alrighty, here are a sampling of the pics from my trip to Silverstone last weekend as well as the Honda Racing F1 factory on Monday.
One thing I really liked about Silverstone was that because of the high speed sections and corners you could really see the cars pitch and lean during trasitions. You could also see the slightly different lines between the drivers because of the wide track. Its a great place to watch a race and I highly reccomend it. I was really surprised by how clean the spectators left it. Easily the cleanest post race scene I've witnessed.
Make sure you let all the pics load. theres some great ones at the end...
Enjoy. This post took a few hours to put together.

Saturday Morning practice:
super Aguri through Maggots

toro rosso leaving Becketts,entering Chapel

McLaren exiting chapel

Ferrari down Hanger straight

looking towards Stowe

this is just killer! At silvertone, rather than have corner approach markers that say 300m, 200m, 100m, 50m, etc, they just have a sign ~150m before entry that shows what the corner looks like!!! ha ha! So I got pics of most of the cars passing by the sign

this about the only pic I have of Copse to put up, with a GP2 car going flat out round it

Sunday/Raceday
pre-race RAF air show. cool stuff.

Race photos are from the Becketts grandstand with a veiw of the cars approaching through Maggots, flying through Becketts, and exiting through Chapel...
First lap craziness:

doh, Red Bull off on the left of pic. Right in there about to happen in the action is contact between a Toyota and Toro Rosso

Ruebens chasing Jaun Pablo

Lap 2, being led by the safety car

ooh ooh, hurry before they come back round!

Reubens now ahead of JPM... too bad that wouldn't last =\

Jensy-poo at the back of pack starting to gain places... to bad that didn't last either =\

Reubens’ car:

Running Jenson's engine. No it did not blow up. It was an oil leak that took him out of the race. Yes, my ears hurt while taking this photo.

The Japanese engineers checking out the data from the Jenson engine run

One reason for the engine run is to warm up the engine oil for draining. Here also, you can see a little of what the car looks like with the engine covers off.

all sealed up with the FIA's blessing

a pair of scooters for Ruebens and Jenson to ride around the track and paddock on during race weekends. Here they're on little trolleys so they can be slid into the truck.

Some more paddock pics:
Renualt trucks, and McLaren and Ferrari's hospitality centres

Honda and Red Bull's hospitality centres side by side.

Red Bull really know how to throw a party. They use this additional hospitality centre in addition to the one seen in the other pic. It does make good use of availble space. I'll be curious to see if they pack it for Indy. you can see Toro Rosso's in the background.

some interesting things from them:

too bad, eh, Jenson. Looks like the new helmet paint scheme didn't bring too much luck...

pokin fun at Ron Dennis of McLaren

Monday at the team factory in Brackley...
Photography isn't allowed inside if the "shop" so here is what I can show you from the visit
through the door to the reception desk where you pick up your visitor's pass...

off to the side I spied 2 NSX's. I was later told they belong to Nick Fry and Geoff Willis. Figures. We already know Jenson drives a blue one...

my visitor's pass

In the reception lobby was Honda's first car to win a Gran Prix back in 64 or 65 in Mexico. Its a beautiful sight and was fun to explore. This is where Championship White all started...

the brownish-bronze piece close to the steering wheel has a **** on it for adjusting F/R brake balance

shifter down to the right, using an H-pattern which can be seen on the white placard above it on the control panel. brake bias **** at the 2 o'clock position relative to the steereing wheel...

beautiful, exposed CV joints

up a little closer

A little old/new contrast & compare:

Some images of an old titanium wheel nut I was given. On the back of each wheel mounting area are 4 half-sphere convex nubs that drop into and locate it against the hub which has concaved half-sphere holes similar to this. Then the wheel nut goes on. This one has been clearly marked with "PIT STOP PRACTICE ONLY" so that it doesn't make its way on to a race or test car.

and that pretty much does it...

hey no prob! I'm fortunate enough to go to these and see the stuff so I like to share when I do.
Last year, after the German GP I met a key person on the race team and have kept in touch with him ever since. This is now the 5th race I've been able to get back in the garage and help after the race for the pack out.
Marlon: get your parents to go!
I'm taking mine to the US GP. Although its not hard to get my parents to go to a race... they took me to the 82 Long Beach GP when I was a little tyke, and then we lived in Indianapolis for 3 years in the 80's so I got to go to the Speedway all the time in May and watch the indy cars. But anyway, get em to go once and they'll be addicted to the sound and sight of the cars!

Thank you very much for the thorough post. That is probably as close to Silverstone as I will ever get, as these images surpass that of my gaming console. I do love the fact that it has the same signs and sans brake markers. It took a while, but I did some virtual practice runs there and most times count out a certain amount of blue/white barriers to use as brake markers. I think there might even be tick/hash marks on the asphalt, but no numbering. I haven't played in so long. I'm curious if the drivers just use objects, or if they just know.
The virtual tour was inspiring. Thanks again for sharing.

hey, thanks for the compliments! I try to get to a track on Friday during practice if I can, or Saturday if it has to be the case, and do a walk around the track during the practices and support races so I can get a feel for what corners I like best as well as see the famous a legendary corners a track may have. My favorite track that I've walked around was Spa, last year. Wow. Greatness.
I imagine the drivers have to use some kind of visual marker or aid, which is why I was surprise and kind of amused by the signs, since I had no idea that they used "picture signs. There's not a whole lot out there for visual braking clues for corners like Stowe, Club, and Abbey so I'd be curious to know what kind of things they do find to use out there.
