Alternator trouble - 88 4dr
My father has a 1988 Civic 4dr (not sure which trim model) 1500cc pgm-fi.
When he first starts the car, the alternator only charges at 12 volts. If he turns the lights on for 5-10 seconds, then turns them off, it will jump up and charge at 14.25v. Otherwise it only charges at 12v.
The check engine light and alternator light do not come on, and he gets no codes at the ECU. We removed the alternator and had it bench tested and it tests fine. One mechanic believes the problem is in the ECU. Another thinks it is something else, but doesnt know what. We don't know where else to look.
Can anyone help us? Thanks in advance.
