Hello All,

My first post here and I hope someone may be able to help me.

I got a 92 Prelude Si 5 spd. Recently I notice the car is having speedometer issue. Sometime the speedometer will not work and just show 0. It happens randomly. One time it did this for about 2 mins and the check engine light came on afterward. I got to where i was going and when I return and started the car, everything was fine again with no engine light.

So I would like to know might be the cause of the problem?

do you have aftermarket gauges?

 

could be the alternator going out, i'd check it out

 

I bet $$$$ that the connector for the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is f'ed up in some way.

There are many many threads on this topic and a little searching will give you lots of answers.

 

Same, VSS is probably your problem.. is your Tach working as intended?

Yes the tech works fine. Can someone tell me where the VSS is located at?

Lastly how would the altenator affect the speedometer?

 

I would put my money on the alternator...It did the same thing to my friends 00 Civic Si...Tach would work but the speedo wouldnt. At least check that!
