i recently had my timing belt and water pump changed at a local shop. After they were done, my car pinged badly when accelerating. They retarded the timing all the way in order for it to be at 16 degrees. My car was fine for a day or two and then it started to lightly ping when i put it in too high of a gear for the particular speed. To my understanding, even though im not supposed to put it in that gear at speed, it is still not supposed to ping when i accelerate.

Also, when i turn on my AC and rev the engine from idle, i can hear a quick "clunk" noise from the engine, as well as more pinging when i drive it normally... Now, my timing has been checked and rechecked and it shows it is at 16 degrees... however, why would it have to be fully retarded ( it cannot be retarded anymore at the dizzy) to be at the correct timing? I have put in 91 octane and it still has these symptoms.

CLiffs: car pings and detonates with timing correct... dizzy is fully retarded for some reason so timing can be correct.

Any suggestions???

thats what i told them but they said no...

im going back tomorrow to have them fix it but still looking for reasons...

anyone know how many degrees a tooth is on a z6
