Default locating pins for replacing head - needed?

I have a 1987 D15A2 engine that I removed the head and had a valve job done. I am in the process of replacing the head but I discovered that the two locating dowel pins that go on the block are missing. They came off with the head when I removed it but the machine shop that did the valve job lost them (actually claimed that they were never on the head). I am in a relatively remote area of Arizona and neither the Honda dealer, nor any parts shop or junk yard have those dowel pins. How critical is it that those pins be there? Some of the head "bolts" are actually studs so it seems that the head would be pretty close to where its supposed to be without the locating dowel pins - but I'm not a seasoned Honda mechanic either. I know just enough to get me in trouble.
Any ideas?

Tom
