Default b16a pistons in a LS (b18b)... uh huh, i'v searched..

okay so i'v done a bit of research, and i found the c-speed racing compr. calc and it said that i'l get a comp ratio of 10.8:1 using b16a pistons in a stockass b18b engine.....
so i was just wondering, to the ppl who'v done this, with a jump in compression of 1.6:1 (coz b18b is 9.2:1), what gains would i get with the rest of the engine being stockstandard inside, and the only other mods being i/h/e????

also, im guessing i'd have to get the ecu chipped and tuned to sort out the fuelling if i raise the cr so much??

any idea of what sort of numbers, the b18b has 142 hp at the flywheel if im not mistaken??

will a cr of 10.8:1 be fine to run with pump gas, we get 95 octane from the pumps here in South Africa..

none of the other threads i saw covered the type of power increase one would achieve by doing this......

thanks in advance

-rich

10.8-1 compression is fine with 91 octane if tuned. Usually when compression is raised on a B18a/b, the cams are upgraded also, so I don't know what kind of results you will get with higher compression alone. Install some Crower 403's or 404's cams and upgraded valvesprings, and you will have some very nice gains.
Good luck and let us know how the raised compression alone works out.

Yeah you won't need to run 95, gosh I wish we had that here, upgrading the cams is where you'll see bigger results after the pistons. Make sure you get some sort of a tune after, cause the stock ls ecu is not gonna feed the motor with the right amount of fuel. You should be ok It would be a good start for lsvtec along with some rod bolts.

man the lowest we get at the coast is 95 we used to have 97 too till the start of the year.. we also had 100 from the one group of petrol stations for a while. that rocked.

anyway, got a price on those pistons from my honda dealer, they work out to the equivalent of $460.. ouch. i hate the exchange rate.

anyway, im gonna look around an see if i can get some anywhere else.. keen for 403's too

so its a given that i'l have to chip the ecu and tune.. uberdata will do the trick, right??

id go with some ctr pistons and some rod bolts.
go lsv with a b16 head and some crower stage 2's and youll see some good power gains. you should be in the low 12:1 range.
tuned to 91 id say you should be some where around the 175's to 190's easy to the wheels...im basing these numbers off of personal experience.
good luck.

youd be stupid to pay that much for a set of pistons that barely break 200 a set in the used honda market
