GOT A POLL!!! B18B OR B16A?!?!?!
HEY. IM NEW TO THE BOARD. IM TRYING TO DECIDE ON THE B16A OR B18B FOR MY 2000 CIVIC EX. IF IT HELPS ANY, ILL BE RUNNING THE ZEX KIT ON TOP OF THE MOTOR I CHOOSE. PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE. THANKS
well a b16a will make your car run the same as a new si. the b18b would be nice because of the tq. i would probablyu go with the b18b because of lower compression and more tq.although i love the b16a it has a high compression ratio=not good for f/i
b16 powered car will out run the B18b car. LS car might have take off advantage, but B16 will soon catch up.
Ya, but a bolted on B18B in a Hatch would not be the same as in an EX coupe... But my 4dr LS killes modded EX's, but lightly modded Si's are a beatch......so damn light !!!!
You could do LS/Vtec, .... if you are already spending the $$ on a B16, you can get the LS parts of the conversion MUCH cheeper than what the GS-R engines go for..... a whole LS engine would cost you $800 or so
Why not spend the extra left over from an LS engine and get some headwork ?

B16 with a DelSol Tranny or GSR tranny will burn the B18b any day.
BTW, B16 w/ GSR tranny VS. B18B w/ GSR tranny = B18B winning.
Since your car is so heavy you would be better off with the b18 w/ nos. It will give you the torque and the nos will give you the extra hp once your rolling.
b16a hands down. that motor just has more potential in stock form. if you are gonna build it up doesnt' really matter both will come out great.
i'd go with the b16a. love the 8k redline, and vtec = fun.
i'm not a big fan of the ls/vtec setup.. but that is a good power option to have.

11.2 with a bone stock B16 in a CRX need I say more. The B18 is a solid motor but it is no where as strong as a B16. The rods, oil pump, lack of oil squirters, and lack of Vtec why would you run a B18 over a B16, sounds just straight stupid to me. So you loose a little torque but you have more horse power and a bigger power band to play with. If you want torque go buy a Chevy, if you want pure power to weight ratio build a honda with a B16.
b18b akk the races i see between b16 vs b18b civics the b18b's have won. Both motors are great if u want to go FI go with the b18b has low compression and able to boost more.
I have beaten MANY B16A powered car's both stock and modified.
Hi, Dustin!!

The B16A has more potential, if you have the money to dump into it. Out of the box the B18b is a stronger motor, top end can be gained with a change to a SIM and a header with a 2.5 inch collector, want more top end put some cams in, Slopokes car has no tope end problems, I have driven it many times and it is FAST, no matter were you are in the rev band. B18B1slmd3dr's car has amazing low end torque, although I will admit you feel the loss in top end. NA, the B16A is just too small too make excellent power, the B18B is definately easier to Turbo and just as easy to make a little more NA power on, plus it responds beautifully to N20.
Oh BTW, I dont own a B18B, I own a B18C5.
