You would probably get a lot more bang for your buck if you got a B series engine. The only thing you would probably get from your DX-EX swap is a headache. You're gonna need to run an EX ecu. You say your friend has a 95. Well, his head is OBDI. Your car is OBDII. So you're going to need to get a 96+ EX ecu. Then you'll need to run a wire to the VTEC solenoid. If you ask me, it's a lot of work for not a lot of reasons to do the swap. Sorry if this doesn't help you out.

acuracing is right, it'll be a lot of work form obd1-obd2 the harness alone will be about $180-$250 if you find it. also you will need a different ecu, i'm not sure if your intake manifold will work to. i dont know if its noticeable difference if you do go for it. save up for a b18b or b16a. peace.

97 civic dx coupe(all silver)
95 jdm b16a2(obd1-obd2 skunk2 harness)
p28 ecu w/ skunk2 chip
gsr tranny

just use your distrib,obd1 obd 2 does not matter.as long as you use your 96 distrib.the holes need to be inlarged for the 96 dis to bolt to the 95 head.the intake bolt pattern is the same.88 to 2000 bolt pat for exaust and intake manifold is the same.ex,dx,hf,lx,cx,si,std, and so on.as i dont remember on the ecu but the 96-00 ex ecu will work.

You may want to go to a dealer and match up the head gasket to see if they are interchangeable.
