old question, new twist, help me diagnose, search completed
91 Acura Integra, Manual.
Two problems here.
1.) Front engine motor mount (attaches tranny to frame) is bad.
2.) Recent small tear in CV boot (info on which side intentionally left out)
One symptom - Clicking when turning (common noise when axle is going bad).
Question:
When you hear the notorious clicking noise in an axle, how do you determine WHICH side its coming from?
Additional info - Both the problems 1 and 2 listed above can cause an axle to go bad. Normally, with a CV boot tear and the common clicking noise, you would just replace that axle. Since I have a bad motor mount as well, which causes unnatural torque on the axles causing them to go bad, I can't be sure WHICH axle is bad. Also, my CV boot tear is small and recent so this may have had no detrimental affect as of yet.
How can a person diagnose WHICH axle is bad based on the "clicking noise" symptom.
Thanks for your input!

if u hear it when turning wheel right its the left, n visa versa
replace the motor mount also .. see if the sound goes away.. if the tears recent, it more than likely did not cause the cv joint to take a sh*t

I doubt a bad motor mount would have much to do with an axle going out. Your CV joints are designed to compensate for a fairly wide range of motion, and a bad motor mount is just going to cause the engine to dip slightly down on that side. And a bad motor mount sure as hell won't cause a boot to dry rot and crack.
As far as which joint it is, just jack your car up, crank the steering all the way to one side or the other, then turn the wheel over by hand. You'll be able to both hear and feel it.

Clicking noise is present when I turn to the left. When I accelerate car pulls to the left. Also, though not a good way to diagnose anything, the clicking noise definitely sounds like its coming from the right side of the car. Just an FYI, my research has indicated that a bad motor mount, in my case the tranny mount, can cause the axle to go bad due to the constant unnatural torqueing. My boot is actually in good condition, just a small tear with plenty of grease in it.
