The shifter on my brother's EH3 feels loose. I replaced the shifter stabilizer bushings with the energy ones, and that didn't do much help. I looked the the linkage that goes into the tranny and it has play in it.

How do i tighten that down so that its not as loose? Or is it time for a new linkage/tranny?

 

If your talking about the part where the shifter meets the linkage you can put a few washers in there as needed to take out the play. Thats what I did on my Sol, works great, took out the slopage and improved the shifting.

 

well when its in gears, you have about 2 inches that you can wobble it on either side. Its really bad. Its not where the shifter meets the linkage, it is where hte linkage meets the tranny.

 

iv got the same prob..and i replaced all the bushings..didnt help much..they say a good short shifter helps.....just to cheap to buy one,.

 

Get under the car, near the tranny, twist the shift rod and watch the action at the tranny end. If you see the shift rod twist but the rod at the tranny doesn't move, then the joint where the 'bitch pin' is has too much play and the linkage needs to be swapped out for a new one.

Opps, I have a DA, but I think your linkage is very similar tho.

The answer has been given. The play is either at the shifter end, or the tranny end. I just described how to see the play at the tranny end, and new bushings should fix the shifter end. What else are you looking for?
