Hey guys, just wanted some opinions from R drivers, whether you have driven/ridden in or looked at the Beetle Turbo S... Saw one of these yesterday parked near my school, and really liked the Porsche look of it... It was silver, I know if I got one it would be that dark gunmetal...

I'm not really an R driver, but I play one on TV...

My GSR, with Intake/Exhaust beat one like a baby seal on the freeway a week ago... Any car with a flower vase... Not so good...

I read an article in Motor Trend I believe, where they were comparing all the hatches including the Beetle Turbo S. It came in last.

 

Its a damn bubble..and IMHO its a womens car. the engine is torquey though.

 

Actually it was Car & Driver, but the message was the same. LAST!!!

 

 

Isn't that the same magazine that showed the RSX-S being faster than the Type R? I never believe anything they say..

Probably is, I don't know. As far as the Beetle goes, they basically did alot of different test with the hatches and the beetle was last overall. I guess with some mods it could be improved upon just like everything else.

 

Not an R driver but, At least VW are making stuff you can improve, Keeping the after market industry alive. I have been a Honda Fan for years , But look at the Junk are now tunning out, I think Honda hired someone from GM. There quility has gone way down, Look at the new Si, the paint , fit and finish, the plastic feel of everything, They started the Craze, now the are even slower than the Beetle, I think they have made a full circle, In the 80's the civic was a cheap run-around car, then went to the quickest cars on the street, now they are back to A to B cars with " Honda's Reliabilty" to bach them. I'm disapointed !.

 

Not "feelin" it. IMO i think the VW Bettles look like fugin FISH TANKS.. I agree, a car that comes with a vase/flower, not for me..

 

I got a chance to drive a turbo S beetle. It does not feel fast by any means, but somehow the numbers prove that its faster than my GSR. It feels good from the beginning to like 4k, then after that it just sucks! Makes peak torque around 2000 rpm so thats probably why you get that "push" back into your seat. After that the power just dies off very shortly. I'm not impressed with it at all. I am also not impressed with the $27,500 price the dealer had on it. Talk about a mark-up for such an overhyped car with bucket seats made for people who have square butts.

 

I'm a valet, and i parked my first one today, i was pretty impressed overall, the turbo was real loud and u could hear the thing spool up real quick... but its still a beetle, i feel like i'm losing my manhood when i sit in one.

 

Sounds like another problem... not the car.

 

I dont like it much...not NEARLY as cool as the new Mini Cooper S!

How about the 1.8T GTi Golf, and I heard that the special edition will be 1500 units, so it's pretty much as rare as the 00/01 ITR???

 

The mags I've read complain about the loud, unnecessary active wing, and say the Jetta or Golf with the same drivetrain will dust it in the handling department.

It's nothing that would interest an ITR driver, beyond double checking that it's no threat.
