set the crank pulley for TDC then move the cams so they are set for TDC too. theres arrows on the cam pulleys and also a small like on the side of the crank pulley that you have to line up on both the crank pulleys so you know that they are both on the same page.

i got the cam gears and crank pulley figured out i think but what do you mean both crank pulleys? also which mark on the lower main crank pully should be lined up with the line on the lower cover

also does it matter which way i turn the cam gears to put them at up?
thanks

for the crank pulley there are a series of 3 small notches, two white with a red one in the middle, line the red one up to the line on the timing belf cover

as for the cams, put them so the arrows on the gears that say up are up. then look for the notches on the cam gears where the cam gears are closest and adjust the ams until they are level with eachother

after this you can install your timing belt and dont forget to tension your tensioner and you should be good to go

mine has like 4 lines on the pully, 3 together then looks like theres another like an inch or so away.. none are colored

guessi should just out it in the middle of the 3 huh

also does the pully have to be off to get the lower t belt over off? i found 2 bolts and took them out, havent took the pully off, just the nut

you need to use the white mark on the pulley..you said none are colored..it is the single one away from the other three..

the three marks closest to each other are for when you check timing.. i believe they are 14,16,and 18 degress before tdc..if you were to use the center of the three when installing the belt you will be a few teeth off

as far as getting the timing belt cover off..yes you must remove the crank pulley first

I know you probably know this but I knew an idiot who swapped an LS into his Civic and when setting the timing set his cam gears arrow straight up in relation to the floor of the garage. Which screwed things up.

The engine sits slightly angled and the cam gears need to be straight up in relation to the engine.

I don't know how to answer that. But I'd be willing to bet that rotating them in the same direction the engine would normally turn would be a safe way to do it.
