Default possible to fix my broken gas gauge?

Edit: Picture Below

I have a 95 civic Si with the stock gauge cluster. Recently I may have accidentaly broken the tiny copper wires on the back of the gas gauge. The gas gauge reads full despite the volume of gas in my tank. Is it possible to fix the gauge by soldering new wire from the post to the coil? Has anyone done this before?

I have a 15/30w iron and rosin core 63/37, I'm just wondering how. I tried to do it once, but failed. What I did was solder individual tiny wires, maybe about 36 gauge, from the copper coil to the post. What I really need is to talk to someone who has done this before successfully. Before I waste more time trying to solder with something much thicker (22awg for example) I wanted to ask for input.
