Sea Foam Poll
Hey guy's I've been reading up on SeaFoam, and it seem's to good to be true. For basic engine aphrodisiacs (j/k) 'they just seem to like em' I've stuck with the basics; i.e. injector cleaner etc. Now these are the things they 'claim' it will do:
* Cleans fuel injectors
* Cleans carburetor jets
* Cleans carbon
* Stabilizes fuels
* Upper cylinder lube
* Removes moisture in fuel
* De-icer
* Frees sticky lifters
* Frees sticky rings
* Removes moisture in oil
* Cleans P.C.V. systems
* Cleans catalytic converter odors
* Oxygen sensor safe
Just wanting to hear some opinions on this product and past experiences.
So here's a Poll based on your experiences.

kind of a tough poll to start. not everyone tears down their motor to inspect the parts after a seafoam session....i dont even know if anyone has yet.
the general conclusion that everyone has reached is better throttle response, smoother idle, and a smoother running motor in general.

That's moreso what i'm asking, but given the idea of what problems they* claim Seafoam cures, it could be assumed that you'd be able to base your experiences by answering a poll question. Thanks for the reply man.

After there was a HUGE trend/fad/interest in every single forum on honda-tech regarding seafoam, I hopped on the band wagon and tried a bottle in my own car. I had aprox 160k miles on my 94 GSR at the time. I followed all the instructions other sucessful h-t members had posted (1/3 in brake booster, 1/3 in crank case, 1/3 in tank of gas). On a high mileage car, a lot of smoke was blowing out due to all the carbon build up. I noticed my car was more responsive and ran smoother after using seafoam.

exactly the same for me. Moral of the story: seafoam works.

I've used seafoam on five high mileage cars now and have hardly noticed a damn thing.
Making the ungodly amount of smoke is the most fun part.
I think a lot of these improvements people see are just mentally more than what the benefits really are.

so i tell my friend to use sea foam in his mustang so what does he do he puts a can in his oil and puts a can in his gas tank. perfectly fine you let it idle get all the crap out then go change your oil. not him lol the dumbass goes and races it against my integra like 10 times and he noticed a performance gain btw so he thinks his ***** fast. so we are at the light about to go for it again and i hear this horrible screaching noise and knocking he says he has no oil pressure, he ended up spinning his main bearings hard. so word of advise follow the directions on the can lol

BAD!!!!!! Do not use seafoam. Or any detergent such as seafoam... Especially on older motors, bearing clearances and bearing conditions are extending there range from spec. Detergents just accelerate the deterioration of the bearings.
Although one should change the oil after running it for those 5 minutes, those 5 minutes are spent usually driving and taking the engine further out of spec...

Why not do some research before using a product that can ruin a perfectly good engine.

Thanks for all the feedback guy's, the bias's this product produces are quite amusing.
But as for me I think I'm convinced, a friend of mine just did it on his eg (correctly) and he encountered '0' problems. So i guess it's a matter of following instructions.
Thanks.

seafoam is somewhat identical to honda's top end cleaner. there has been a big debate about this product.
higher mileage motors may experience good things as well as bad. the biggest concern was lower compression. carbon build up somehow causes a higher compression in the combustion chamber and acts as a "seal"...
ive personally experienced the pros and cons with seafoam in our power and performance class as a project.. we built chevy 350's and ran it on a dyno and pulled a total of 20 runs each. ran seafoam on one of the small blocks and none on the other. did a few more dyno pulls, and resulted in a minimal loss of hp and tq. i wished i took pics to prove it but its not allowed in our lab area.
tore down both engines. 350 with seafoam showed alot of breakdown of additives in motor oil..not good. it also showed a little lack in lubrication on the main and rod bearings. oil clearances grew a bit bigger, a little loss in oil pressure. but sure it had alot less carbon build up. 350 with no seafoam results? carbon build up. not great if it were a daily driver, but still can show reliability.
i know there was a write up on ht maybe a few years back about the seafoam...too lazy to search.

used it once, didn't experience anything bad. did it with a friend and he followed me on the "spirited" drive afterword and said all sorts of black **** was comming out of my motor for awhile. His car had no black smoke. But then mine turned the normal light grey and then cleared out.
It really takes some time...even years before you see the inherent damage that can come from the use of Seafoam or similar products...
But good luck, either way...

Seafoam worked absolutely GREAT on my 90 Ls, before my idle was rough and the car used to shake but right after i used seafoam and took it for a drive i let it sit for a while and when i started it back up i couldent even tell the car was on. it smoothed out my engine so good. So, to make a long story short.. that stuff really works!!
