The valves are thickly coated in carbon. i took off the head to inspect the pistons, and they are also very thickly coated with carbon, i scraped it off the pistons, but how should i get it off the valves?? would a machine shop clean the head for me?

i dont believe in that stuff. i used it on my old motor, and took the head off 5days later, thre was still carbon all over the pistons.

 

what is sea foam?

 

its an engine cleaner you pour into the motor while running, lots of members have had good success with it. any machine shop should be able to clean them up for you.

sometimes the ugly motors run the best, if it turns over freely run it

 

just get a die grinder and a flap wheel and clean away
