the only answer i have would be move to another state so you don't have to keep putting up with that bullshit

it was to my understanding that the ref wont pass you if the cars turboed.
i have an H22ek and i got popped for my exhaust, im supposed to go this month but im just gonna pay the fine because i was told that they wont let me drive my car home with the swap i have.
Refs are THE DEVIL, just pay the fine.

if i was actually running the 96-00 greddy kit it would be carb legal, but im running a 92-95+bov+home rigged FMIC.
sorry i meant "greddy w/ bov/emanage/FMIC -> stock" as in im changing it back all to stock.
i'm only wondering about a spliced harness... one of my friends said i could just electric tape all over it so they cant even tell anyway, if they even checked

they will not look at the ecu. when i went for my swap BAR, they visually checked everything without taking anything apart. then, it was thrown on the dyno and tested.

you got lucky then; at both places I went they at least looked at it...The guy at pierce college went OCD and took it out of the car and opened it up to make sure I wasn't running a chip or hondata type management, the guy up at oxnard college just pulled the carpet back to check that it was a p30.

To the OP:
you need to make the wiring look as stock as possible, soldering and heashrinking it is he only sure way to pass at any ref(some are cool about everything as long as it passes the sniffer and others are very nit picky)

the guy who opened up your ecu is a dipshit. it is a visual inspection, not a teardown inspection. they are only supposed to do that if they suspect that something has been tampered with and they have to diagnose what has been tampered with. the pulling the carpet back is fair game...
i got my bar at riverside.

ok, back from the dead. just an FYI for any more california referee guys.

i went to rio hondo college in whittier. passed on the first try!

i had a tsudo N1 catback (with silencer just to be safe), DC header, AEM short ram.
the IAT sensor wiring was extended.

the guys even checked the ECU, i had the greddy emanage harness laying in there (even with labels on the wiring) and electric tape all over my O2 MIL eliminators and they passed it.
not related to smog, but should mention: i also had a oil pressure gauge coming from the back of the engine, and a disconnected boost gauge mounted on the cluster.

the sniffer was VERY close, it's probably time for a new cat soon =/.

The guys at Rio Honda College are really cool. I had to take my d16y8 out of my EJ1 and put the d16z6 in, long story short. I didn't pass smog the first time so they let my car warm up a lil and retested me, they could have failed me right then and there to Rio Honda College

No, they dont change a/f, spark or anything. They might say something but theres no where anywhere (well atleast to my knowledge) that says pullies are illegal.

You could only take this test if you get an exhaust noise ticket. Its a free test but you cant just go there whenever to get your sticker.

Thanks for the response.

I just asked about the pulleys to be safe. Pulleys do not affect the emmisions in any way shape or form so I should be good.

So if I received a ticket for things other then exhaust noise regardless of the db's they can't say/do anything? Because I was not written up for that is what you're saying

My buddy has a prototype HyTech TSX exhaust, which is pretty loud.

Yea if you dont get the noise ticket you dont take the test. Ref isnt going to say "**** your cars to loud let me get a cop here to give you a ticket for it" Seriously they dont care about what type of exhaust system since all it is is noise. They care about the cat and thats it for exhaust. Now if you get the noise ticket theyll test you and let you go with or without your pass ticket.

Next question the header and exhaust aren't CARB exempt either - they won't give a damn?

There is a cat and necessary o2 sensors

Should he put the OEM header and exhaust back on to be safe?

Header they will, exhaust they wont. What type of header are you using? If its a stock honda header youll be fine. If its aftermarket header then no you need to change that.
