Default More tranny probs - popping out of 2nd gear

Ok, so I picked up a Y8 tranny with a bad ISB. With the help of a friend who has fixed this before we changed out the input shaft bearing and seal, and the 2 washers. Put the tranny back together, and put it back in the car. I know this was stupid, and I am going to change it tomorrow, but all I had at the time was gear oil. So I put that in the tranny. I am going to get some Honda MTF or Synchromesh and use that.

With all that said, it keeps popping out of 2nd gear. It only does it in 2nd gear, and seems like it does it more when I go around a left turn. The only possible causes of this that I know are tranny fluid and bad 2nd gear synchro.

Does anyone have any other ideas, or could something possibly be aligned wrong? Clutch slave cylinder hooked up bad? Something with the shift rod that goes to the tranny? I'm kinda lost, and I dont want to pull the tranny again unless I have to. Obviously we took the mainshaft/countershaft assembly out of the tranny when we did the ISB replacement. I am 99% sure we hooked it up just like we took it apart. What could we have misaligned if it was something inside?

Id put money on the fluid, I had a prob with a y80 popping out of 5th. Turns out it was leaking oil and I ended up burning the gears before i got more in expensive mistake...

I guess I just dont understand how just changing the fluid will make it not pop out of one gear. You would think if it was the fluid, it would pop out of more gears.

The motor oil is fine.... just not for everyday driving really. But it's not gonna hurt anything temporarily. Definately get some Honda MTF or any transmission fluid. But the fluid isn't going to be the problem.

Either it had more wrong than just the ISB or you put it back together wrong. Did you put the two washers in the correct way?

The oil isnt really motor oil...it's more like 75W-80 or 90.

The 2 washers are in the right way. I was more talking about the fact that we had the whole mainshaft/countershaft assembly out. There was a thread on here in this section that pointed to a really nice write up of how to change synchros and what not, but the pictures are down, so that's not much help.

If you didn't pull the actual main shaft or counter shaft apart (and just lifted them out) then it's somewhat hard to run into problems. So as long as the washers were put in properly, then the 2nd gear synchro could just be f00ked.

Sweet.

Would it make a difference if it only did it at low rpms? Once I get higher, it doesnt pop out.

Usually you'll find out that when you release load from the engine/drivetrain (let off the throttle) you'll find out that the gear will fall out of gear with the synchro bad. With load on it, mostly it won't fall out.

How is the countershaft upper bearing? Are you sure you bought/installed the correct mainshaft bearing.

Not sure about the countershaft bearing, but I did order the right stuff. Got it from hondapartsdeals.com.

[QUOTE=TurboGoKart]The oil isnt really motor oil...it's more like 75W-80 or 90. QUOTE]

please tell me that you're not running 75W-80 in your transmission.

that's a thick weight oil used for much larger transmissions

10w-30 non-synthetic oil if you're going to use motor oil.

honda mtf of gm synchromesh.

if it's red, purple, green, blue, whatever, don't put it in the tranny.
