CV Joints
97 honda accord se auto
My cv joints or whatever click when i turn left and or right and i press the gas, i know it is the cv boots or joints.. the boots are torn
was wondering if i can just buy the boot kit and replace the boots and it would stop the clicking or do i have to replace the whole axle. Been clicking for a year now, started off real small to none and now it clicks everytime.
im not a big mechanic or nothing but was wondering if there is a big diffrence from replacing the whole axle as to just the boots.
thanks

i was just always under the impression the reason why it was clicking was b.c the boot was torn.. if thats not the case and its b.c mabey the axle is on the verge of breaking then please correct me b.c then ill just get the whole axle
boot is torn is one of the causes of the clicking sometimes. Dirt gets inside and the cv joint itself goes bad. In terms of replacement, if you DIY, it is cheaper just to go to the autoparts store and pick up an axle, spend 1 hour to replace the entire unit yourself.
You can drive on it, the clicking will start to happen more and will get louder with time. It will not lead to catastrophic failure. But it will need to be fixed eventually.
If you lived closer, I could show you how. But there are several very informative threads that have pictures. You can't screw it up... that easily.

When the boot gets ripped the grease gets out. After the grease is gone the joint goes bad. When the joint goes bad you hear the clicking sound. The clicking sound is a warning that sooner or later the axle will snap (and you will be motionless). Have fun
