Default Walbro Fuel Pump 'Whine' - Normal?

Ive got a walbro 255 fuel pump in my crx and the ******* thing makes a squeel/whine type of noise. Its completely constant and pretty high pitched. I can hear it very much when it primes but when the motor gets running the exhaust drowns most of it out but if you stick you head close to the gas tank you can defietnely hear it.

Is this normal for the high pressure pumps?

ok how much hp are you making anyway.? you might be able to get away with walbro 190 which is almost as queit as stock..or just deal with the walbro wine,,do you have any rear interior? dynomat on the floor as well as rear interior would help wit the interior db levels

let me edit i dont have the 255 anymore

Makes sense that a high performance 255lph fuel pump would make more noise than a stock pump. Funny thing is most people just slap it on without really having a use for it, even running 255lph on otherwise stock HF's.

If i rememberly correctly he has a fully built motor forged pistons and rods, built head and t3 turbo so he needs it..im sure he could probably make do with the 190 pump though cause you cant make too much hp with the t3

I don't have any experience with aftermarket fuel pumps, but my boss mentioned something about his Fuel pump constantly whining in his DSM. dunno what its worth but i think it is normal to a point

ive probably got close to or above 300whp

Pushing 15psi on a t3 .60/.63

I just thought it was weird that the car ran for 2 weeks without me really hearing any noise other than when it primed, now its a constant whine and it got a little more high pitched

Perhaps something is wrong. Did you install it? perhaps it's on it's way out or the strainer fell off?

id look into for sure man. not a good sign.

i highly doubt 300whp at 15psi on a t3 though.

It's normal, I just installed mine today, and it's consideribly louder than the stock pump (Walbro 255lph). Hopefully the sound of the turbo will drown out some of the high-pitched noise.

I've got one...only because I was going to install a N20 wet kit.
Anyway, I remember reading something here on HT awhile back about grounding the walbro differently than a stock pump. Sorry I can't be more specific...One of the benefits was that it was quieter. You might be able to find that write up and see if anything in there might help.

He has it on a non-vtec sohc running turboedit. 'Built' consists of rods & vitaras. When you look at the topics he has created in the past (under all of his various money-scamming names), he has the technical expertice of an ape. With that in mind, the fact he complains about being so far from any tuner, I doubt he'll ever have it making over 250 - at the crank.

If it doesnt blow up by this summer, it will catch fire and burn to the ground when I make it up to canada and dump gas on it.

I have a bbk performance 255lph in my 91 si ef it was in my 92 da integra and from the start it whined i have a built motor that runs a direct port nitrous kit at a 175hp shot it a b18a1 ls motor but you really dont need a 255lph unless you are running a nitrous kit or a turbo kit with bigger injectors because of the point of fuel pressure drop and more flow but the whine is normal. everyone i know that is running one has the same problem
