STOLEN Civic in NorCal (Bay Area) Please keep an eye out!
Stolen from West San Jose / Campbell California ZIP 95117 / 95008 on Wednesday May 31 in the early AM
This is the best car I have ever owned and I miss it dearly. If you spot it please call the
police and a friendly reminder to those who own these cars. The cops say they are very easy
steal especially after the ignition locks get worn down with use. Keep an eye on your cars
and don't store anything valuable in them.
Thanks!

DAMN...I better come up with something more theft proof than a regular old alarm. I just bought and spend hours (literally) cleaning up my CRX that I just picked up yesterday, no you have me all thinking!
Check out my new ride:

Hope you get your ride back!
Also you might want to make a list of unique parts that may pop up for sale on ebay or craigslist to hopefully get some folks to remember it's your parts therefore you know who to beat down when you go to pick them up!

Jesus, not another one close to home.
Hope you get it back man. With cases like this, I'm seriously considering investing in a quick detach/locking plate just for parking lots.
This is why I always garage my car at night and hit all of my kill switches.

There were no aftermarket items on my car at all, as it was my daily driver (and a damn good one too).
I don't get it...radio faceplate was removed and out of sight, almost 200k miles on the clock, worn paint and a damaged rear door. Absolutely nothing worth more than $40 was in the car. This just screams of a joyride, although it could be chopped up at this point. No alarm, although i'm not sure if it would have done any good.
I do live in a nice area, but it is sandwiched by very high-density apartment living which is notorious for criminal activity. For those that know the area it is Winchester/Hamilton/San Tomas Expressway. It looks relatively sedate from the main streets, but venture on in and you will see the shady side.
My neighbor's '95 Civic coupe was taken about a year ago and they stripped it, even took the steering wheel so it had to be towed.

I was thinking of that area. God some parts of that area are worse than Story and King Rd
That's the only place where it makes sense that some crackhead/kid would steal a stock honda LOL
If the thieves have abandoned it, it's just gonna be another stock civic sitting on the side of the road, lol. No one will notice it
Sorry it happened to you... I think next time just having a cheap noise-making alarm will do the trick. Mine has paid for itself twice in the area (downtown) that I live
Edit.. and call police if you see someone driving around suspicious

It definitely reminds me of King/Story. Like so much of the Bay Area there are these rundown ghetto pockets littered amongst working class neighborhoods.
If anyone lives in this area do yourself a favor and get an alarm.

My feelings exactly. I hope this is the case. If it is then it could take a week or two before it is reported as abandoned. I am sure that after 12 hours it was dumped, unless the thieves are dumb enough to drive around in a hot car. I had a full tank of gas so the range on it was 300+ miles. It could be well out of the state
Recovered June 12, 2006 from this neighborhood in San Jose. 4 miles from where it was stolen.

This is another gang-infested rat's nest deep in the heart of the Burbank area. When drug busts or gang crackdowns take place on the west side they usually occur in this neighborhood along with the area from which my vehicle was taken. It did not occur to me to check this neighborhood. If I did I surely would have found it as it was covered in dust at the tow yard indicating it sat for some time. This and the battery had died.
The bad:
New head unit, wiring harness, mounting kit, rear 6.5" Blaupunkts, driver's side windshield wiper, engine oil dipstick and interior dome lightbulb (yes they actually took these last few items). $180
Towing fee. $175
The good:
No glass broken or body damage.
Odometer indicates it was driven less than 10 miles
Nothing external appears to have been taken.
Ignition and door locks were intact and fully functional with the key.
Only minor items worth less than $75 stolen from the trunk and glovebox.
Interior is in the same condition it was before it was taken.
$1.50 in change still in the coin drawer.
All points indicate this is the work of juvenile idiots.
It is very nice to be back in my Civic
. The Porsche blows for daily driving (no pun intended) and my bike means no coffee during the morning commute. Time to get an alarm and a steering wheel lock.

Nice. I'm very familiar with that area, as I grew up on the other side of 280, a little more to the West on that map. Some of that area is a shithole, emphasis on the cul de sacs of Deland Ave on that map. The area behind food max is even worse. Still, there are some streets with nice houses in the same neighborhood. Anyways, glad you got your car back in one piece. I don't really see how the thieves benefitted at all by taking your car... dumbasses
Just for reference, I want to post some other HT member's list of the ghettos and hotspots in this area..

Sorry to get OT but, are you ******* serious? I've never had a car stolen, hell, most places in NH you can leave your car unlocked with the keys in it and not worry about it (not that I do), but they make YOU pay the towing fee when someone steals your car? Does insurance cover it? It's as if it's your fault or something.

That is pretty much exactly where it was recovered.
Thanks for the support and nice list of ghettos in and around our city. It can be confusing and dangerous when the line of delineation is so hard to differentiate (i.e. West San Carlos demarcating the somewhat impoverished and crime ridden Burbank area and posh Rosegarden with multi-million dollar homes).

Yes, unfortunately I am serious. I know for a fact that sometimes the Police will call you and have you come and take care of the vehicle when they recover it, saving you the time and money of dealing with a tow company. Unfortunately this was not the case for me.
Total out of pocket charges were about the cost of a deductible on a decent comprehensive insurance policy so full coverage, had I had it, would not have done much other than drive up my rates.

Last night I was in the street replacing my speakers, head unit and fixing the console. As I was pulling the head unit out to adjust something several pedestrians walked by, looked and said nothing. I could have been stealing or stripping the car and it would have gone unnoticed. This is California for you.
