smoke from where?

whats the voltage at the battery? alternator plug and wiring ?

my money is on the alternator getting fried and possibly blowing some fuses. check the connections and fuses.

check the manual:

who installed the alarm? if it isnt alternator (or anything else under the hood) then i would start there. also is there anything else wired into the car that isnt factory?

a bad alternator would cause a dead battery which would in turn cause alarm not to work. but smoke from under the dash/steering column sounds like something is shorting out. i would check if there are any burnt or melted wires, and check any wires that look tapped into.
